About the JR Sailing Program

The Palm Beach Sailing Club is an ideal place for children to learn how to sail and to develop an appreciation for the sea. Teaching children to sail is an important function of the club, and we try to encourage young sailors by offering affordable family memberships and sailing camps for children.

Whether it be across Florida or the United States, Palm Beach Sailing Club sailors participate in sailing and racing events throughout the year and have excelled in local, regional, national and international competition. PBSC has made a commitment to the Junior Program and has successfully recruited the highest level of instruction available anywhere. Instructors and coaches are certified by the United States Sailing Association (US Sailing) complete with CPR and First Aid Certificates.

Our Mission

The Mission of the PBSC Junior Program is to develop knowledgeable youth sailors and to instill in them a love for the sport of sailing that will serve as a foundation for the future of the Club.

Who We Are

Much of the Club's remarkable accomplishments in sailing for 2005-2008 must be attributed to PBSC's outstanding Junior Sailing Program. The program was established by Past Commodore Joe Tringali and Commodore Joe Fields January 2005. The first class in 2005 consisted of 4 sailors, many of whom will later become PBSC Commodore's themselves. Today over 500 youths participate in one of the largest, and arguably the finest year-round junior sailing programs in the country.

The Junior Program consists of a full time Junior Program Director, coaches, maintenance and administrative staff. Facilities include a Junior Clubhouse, tool room, Opti and Laser storage spaces, sail and boat wash areas and one launching ramp. Members of the Junior Program have access to the junior charter fleet that includes 24 New Optimists, Lasers and Radials-4.7's. Also included in the fleet are Sunfish boats including a Snipe, 3 inflatable coach boats and multi-boat trailers for travel to away regattas. Throughout the year, events are scheduled for sailors of all ability levels including fun events, field trips, special racing clinics and a very active after-school program and practices. During the summer months, the Junior Program goes into 'high gear.' The Program employs the finest instructional staff, recruited from around the globe, to teach a ten week summer sailing and racing program.

The result of coaching, learning and racing has led to the Palm Beach Sailing Club Youth Program's success in local, area, national and international competitions. Along with it's competitive achievements, the Palm Beach Sailing Club Junior Program also emphasizes fun, safe boating, seamanship, life skills and safe boating awareness. This serves to reinforce all of it's members' dedication to the Corinthian principles and traditions of yachting at the Palm Beach Sailing Club.

JR Sailing Activities

The Junior Sailing Committee organizes year-round activities for young sailors and maintains the club's fleet of Optimist and Club 420 dinghies, which are reserved for the use by junior sailors. The club also operates an annual summer sailing camp for children of ages 8-18. Instructors certified by US Sailing, teach children to sail in weekly sessions that span the summer months.
