Summer Sail Camp 2008Your child can learn to sail from the beautiful shores of the Palm Beach Sailing Club, located just north of 45th Street on Flagler Drive. Weekly camps start June 9th and go through August 22nd. The weekly camp sessions are divided into morning (8:30-12:00) and afternoon (1:00-5:00). We also offer a full day option (8:30 – 5:00). Our instructors will teach your child the basics of sailing in our fleet of Optimist dinghies, Sunfish, Capri 14’s and Vanguard 15’s. The emphasis will be on water safety, boat handling, capsize recovery, crisis management, team work, sportsmanship and most importantly fun! Sailors will be classified by age, weight and skill level, then placed in the appropriate group. Class sizes are limited to allow each child access to a boat. Basic swimming skills are required and each child must bring a life jacket. Camp will be held rain or shine and in the event of bad weather, basic skills, tactics and sailing related activities will be taught indoors. Learning to sail takes time so at least two sessions are recommended for the beginner. This year we are proud to introduce our race team option to summer camp. PBSC produces some of the finest Jr. sailboat racers in the country. We have extended our racing program into the summer months, with an emphasis on introducing new sailors to the sport of sailboat racing. The prerequisite to joining the beginning race team is completing the Starfish and Tuna sections of Summer Camp. As a bonus to new sailors joining the Sailing Team they will only be charged $50 for up to 10 weekends (Saturdays & Sundays) of all-day instruction. Wow! What a deal. PBSC recruits from around the globe for the highest level of instruction available anywhere. Instructors and coaches are certified by the United States Sailing Association (US Sailing) complete with CPR and First Aid Certificates. Each sailor will receive a T-Shirt, a basic sailing manual and a US Sailing “Red Book” documenting their accomplishments. Every camper will also receive a ticket to our famous “End of the Summer Family BBQ. Sailing is a lifetime sport and many of our campers have advanced to become some of the best sailors in the country.
